Mile Cross candidates

With Thursday being the deadline for candidates in the Mile Cross by-election I am pleased to say that the Norwich North Tories have selected Dave Mackie as their man. Dave has a pretty srtong track record in the ward. Now obviously we find this area more of a challenge but Dave is well known and always polls well, so who knows?

As reported earlier in the week, in contrast to Dave Mackie, the LibDems have selected the rather young and inexperienced Carl Mayhew to fight their corner. Both Carl and Dave fought the seat last May.

No news from the Greens as yet.

Labour were out selecting their candidate last night but no news, although a little birdy tells me it won't be Robin Taylor (for whom I have a lot of respect) because he is a bit busier these days...

I suspect the main issues in North Norwich are likely to be anti social behaviour, property crime allong the Alysham/Drayton Rd corridor and drugs, with affordable housing following closely, with waste collections and incineration also in the background.

I suspect more strongly that most of the issues locally are to do with traffic, two unlisted blackspots at the junction of Drayton/Aylsham Road, and the mini-roundabout on Drayton Road are just waiting for somebody to be killed, One man locally has been in hospital for 6 months after a hit and run o the lower end of Aylsham Road, he may never recover. There is nowhere to cross Aylsham Road, this according to various minutes of meetings I've managed to get hold of is due to an expected reconstruction of the roads in the near future (ho ho ho).
There is a real feeling in the Southern tip of Mile Cross (the bit that got tacked on about two years ago) that we don't actually exist. Crime is negligable compared with the dense student poulated areas around the Golden Triangle. The other major problem is lack of investment in the local amenities - compare Wensum and Waterloo parks with Eaton Park...
