Rumours are flying around City Hall at the moment (prompted by an annon comment on this blog) that Labour's Leader is going on the chicken-run at the next election. Steve Morphew is currently councillor for Mile Cross. Vic Elvin used to be the LibDem Councillor for the same ward. Labour always comfort themselves saying that Vic won on a personal vote and was the only LibDem who would win Mile Cross. The Vic sadly passed away and a young guy called Carl Mayhew went and held onto the seat for the LibDems. Now, apparently, Labour is convinced that if the seat could be won by Mayhew, it could be won by any LibDem. So our Steve, so vital to Labour's success, if off on the chicken run, all the way to ... Catton Grove, currently held by Conservative Eve Collishaw.
Is Eve scared of the challenge? Not a bit of it ... the Tory warhorse declares to me, "Bring it on Morphew"!

Personally if I were Steve, I'd fight where he is in Mile Cross on home area like ASB and wardens provision. With Green issues on the up, Labour are weak on green issues like recycling, he could easily lose in Catton Grove. Where would Labour be for a year or so without Steve Morphew (leader)if he bombs out in the Catton Grove big brother suite??
It will be an interesting fight.
Talking of war at City Hall, did you happen to see those posters around your school?
I think there was one just outside your room...

Nothing like a little pressure on the Tories...
This is a worry, we did badly in May so this will be a much safer seat for Morphew
Perhaps Morph didn't want this issue raised until next Easter before the next local elections, and is going to have to weather the next 6 months!
Yes annon but without Morph the seat is a definite LibDem gain. With him you might just hold on.
Interesting this blog found it while reserching by browsing the internet - Yes a young fellow won here in Mile Cross, but on the back of Viv - used his widow on leaflets, used Vic's name on every leaflet going and even used his letter of condolance to the press to do a bit of cheap electionering. As for Morphew switching to Catton I guess it makes sense as you will remember Barbra Simpson a former leader tried to get back via Mile Cross and lost to Vic.
Time will tell if the Lib/dems can do it on their own, we the community remember what they did to us when in power, pity the Conseratives never do well anymore I prefer them to Lib/dems anyday.
Oh and I forgot to add the Lib/dems also won here in Mile Cross because of the candidet they fielded a Barbra James local campainer tried to do a Lid/dem thing using a known local as they used Vic she was alright if you live around the tower blocks fine! but what about the rest of us?
Keep up the bloggs I've added you to my favs and will check you out now often.
