EXCLUSIVE: LibDems pull Teather from Catholic schools event

Last week was a Catholic educators conference at which all of the big players were due to hear from LibDem Education Spokeswoman Sarah Teather as the keynote speaker. I have been told by an ultra-reliable source that Ms Teather was pulled, by LibDem HQ, at the last moment because of fears that her party support for the government over the gay adoption row may cause unpleasant scenes. Instead delegates heard from each other as catholic Headteachers filled in the gap left by the Brent MP. What a shame that both the government and the opposition can seem to have a grown-up debate about this but the LibDems cannot. I mean - Catholic teachers aren't like the W.I., are they?

I don't know who your source is but I work for a LibDem MP and all of them were on 3 line whip all last Thursday because of all day votes in the Commons. No one was allowed off the parliamentary estate. Sorry to ruin your scuttlebutt....

Being fair, Antony, credit to you for accepting critical comments such as that above. Ditto many bloggers - Tory such as Dale and Liberal such as Norfolk Blogger.

Perhaps you could have a word with Mr Ivory? His failure to bother is becoming a running joke with that lad.

Thanks James - I think you have to publish both sides to be a real dialogue but I understand why some bloggers don't. Personal choice I suppose.

I have said this before but it is worth saying again. I get about three messages a day from people, all claiming to be different, saying they are staunch Tories who worshipped at the temple of Thatcher until they read this blog and immediately turned to the LibDems. Such blatant nobbling doesn't deserve to be printed. Also I get a few that just declare how much they hate me and/or the Tories. Again, if they don't add to the debate and are just abuse I will only publish if they are funny. I always publish your comments though James ;-)
